CHAL Awards Presented at Fall 2017 National Meeting

Judge Pauline Newman Lifetime Achievement Award

CHAL honored Judge Pauline Newman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit at CHAL’s Fall Awards luncheon with the inaugural Judge Pauline Newman Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of her long-term outstanding and continuing achievements in and contributions to chemistry and the law. After accepting the award, Judge Newman spoke to the attendees on the History of the Federal Circuit.

Roger D. Middlekauf Achievement Award

The Roger D. Middlekauf Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions and service to CHAL, was awarded to Krista Bianco. Krista has been active in CHAL since 2010, first serving as program chair. She served as chair of CHAL in 2015, and is currently secretary and programming and communications co-chair.

The Howard and Sally Peters Award for Non-Traditional Careers in Chemistry

The Howard and Sally Peters Award recognizes significant contribution to furthering nontraditional careers in chemistry. The most recent recipients of the award are long-time CHAL executive committee members and intellectual property lawyers Justin and Sarah Hasford. Justin and Sarah frequently present in CHAL’s non-traditional career symposia and have long served as mentors to other ACS members looking to transition to a career in law.
