Fellows’ Corner

CHAL Fellows’ Corner

The designation, Fellow of the American Chemical Society, is awarded based on an ACS member who “has made exceptional contributions to the science or profession and has provided excellent volunteer service to the ACS community.”

According to the terms of the ACS Fellows Program, a Division may nominate current members of the division (a number per year not to exceed twice the number of Division Councilors).  CHAL has been proud to have nominated 7 members who successfully became ACS Fellows since inception of the ACS Fellows Program in 2008.  Not everyone who is nominated is ultimately accepted into the Program.  Unsuccessful nominees must be re-nominated to be reconsidered.

CHAL convenes a subcommittee to consider awards and nominations and decide whether to submit a nomination for ACS Fellow each year.  Please reach out to chemistryandthelaw@gmail.com if you wish to participate in the subcommittee or wish to suggest a nominee.  Nominations are due by April 1st each year, and we typically consider possible nominees in the February and March running up to that deadline.

To date, the following CHAL members have been awarded the distinction of ACS Fellow, as the Division’s nominees:

Howard Peters

Class of 2010

Alan Ehrlich

Class of 2011

James Carver

Class of 2014

Justin Hasford

Class of 2015

Brian Meadows

Class of 2016

MaryAnne Armstrong

Class of 2019

Xavier Pillai

Class of 2021

We have a number of other Division members who are ACS Fellows, and who achieved that distinction by being nominated by another Division or by their local section or by an ACS Governance Committee.
