ACS Division of
Chemistry and the Law
(CHAL)

Mission

Our mission is to provide informative content that bridges the gap between the daily practice of science and the laws and regulations that impact that work. Through a variety of resources, expert articles, and a collaborative community, we aim to support innovation and discovery, and provide education at the intersection of chemistry and the law. Our organization stands as a resource for ACS members who want to navigate the intricate intersections between chemistry and legal practice.

At the ACS Division of Chemistry and the Law, we are focused on education, recognition, and networking for researchers and professionals across law and science. We offer programming in areas that include: intellectual property law; environmental law; forensics; regulatory law; various aspects of civil litigation; and career paths in the law for chemists.

About Us

For more than 20 years, we have been a staple at the American Chemical Society’s two annual national meetings, offering technical programming on the intersection of chemical science and the law.
